P2 - Buying A Practice

This is one of the biggest decisions you will take and so the support of a knowledgeable and experienced firm is vital.

We specialise in advising and helping clients on starting a new practice, deciding what type of practice to buy, reviewing potential purchases, finalising and making the most of your new practice.

Support takes form of telephone calls and telephone meetings as well as face to face meetings.

Unlike many accountancy firms, we do not make an additional charge* for this service, as we believe it to be a natural progression for many dentists, where we play a very important supporting role.

We can even handle the PAYE for your new practice via our sister company – Mac Kotecha & Company!

We also have a "match-making service" that allows clients who are looking for an Associate, a Principle, a Locum or a Practice to place their adverts, at no charge, in our quarterly newsletter, our information sheet, and of course our web-site!

If you think that you would like to buy a practice and would like to discuss the best way forward, or you have any other related queries about buying a practice, please contact Mac on 020 8346 0391

Useful Tips

  • Before you go ahead and buy a practice, make sure you are doing it for the right reason, and that if you do go ahead, not only will you be able to handle the extra responsibility, you will thrive on it.
  • Choose the location very carefully. This is one of the keys to a successful practice.
  • Make sure you are paying the right price for goodwill. This is not a physical asset so it is difficult to gauge its value.
  • Choose a specialist lawyer
  • Make sure you know why the practice is being sold
  • Consider the use of restrictive covenants
